Swanson Middle School in Arlington Public Schools seeks a visionary Middle School Principal to lead grades 6–8. This full‑time, on‑site role combines instructional leadership, budgeting, staffing, and safety to sustain an equitable, rigorous learning environment.

The successful candidate will hold a master’s degree and Virginia administrator licensure, with several years of teaching and administrative experience, and will collaborate with families and the community to advance student achievement.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in education, administration, or related field.
• Five years of teaching experience and at least three years in administration.
• Virginia administrator license or eligible, with Endorsement for secondary principal.
• Driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide instructional leadership and oversee planning, implementation, and evaluation of the educational program for all middle school students.
• Analyze student performance and MTSS data to inform improvement plans.
• Recruit, hire, train, evaluate, and retain qualified staff and provide professional development.
• Develop and maintain a positive, inclusive school culture and climate.
• Establish and enforce policies for student conduct, safety, and compliance with regulations.
• Direct daily operations, including master schedule, budgeting, and facilities oversight.
• Collaborate with parents, community organizations, and district leadership to support student achievement.
• Participate in professional development and district committees to stay current in leadership practices.
