UTSA seeks a dynamic leader to serve as Director of the Center for Archaeological Research (CAR) in San Antonio. This full-time faculty role directs a major research and contract archaeology facility, oversees budgets and staff, and advances training for undergraduate and graduate students.

The position requires a Master’s in Anthropology or related field, at least seven years in CRM or heritage administration, and strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Anthropology or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years’ experience in resource management, heritage administration, or contract archaeology.
• Experience in all phases of CRM: bidding, project design and implementation, personnel and budget management, and report writing.
• Strong decision‑making, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsabilités

• Lead CAR as a 21st-century university-based contract archaeology facility.
• Partner with the Department of Anthropology to provide hands‑on training and research opportunities for students, including those in the PhD program.
• Contribute to instruction, teaching, and graduate committee service as desired.
• Promote community engagement and public education initiatives.
• Manage contracts, budgets, staff, and operational activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
