Job summary

Howard University invites applications and nominations for the position of Chair of the Department of Earth, Environment, and Equity. The Chair will lead faculty and staff, engage stakeholders, and advance scholarship, teaching, grantsmanship, and outreach.

The successful candidate will hold a doctoral degree, demonstrate a record of academic leadership, fundraising, and strategic administration, and will foster inclusive, multidisciplinary partnerships across the university and beyond.

Qualifications

• Evidence of and capacity to secure external funding and undertake fundraising campaigns.
• Established record of graduate and undergraduate teaching excellence and interdisciplinary initiatives.
• Administrative, personnel, and budgetary experience at the department level.
• Active intellectual leadership and ability to build partnerships across divisions.
• Commitment to recruiting and retaining a diverse faculty and staff.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Department of Earth, Environment, and Equity as a member of the College leadership team.
• Oversee faculty and staff recruitment, development, retention, and budgeting.
• Engage with alumni, external constituencies, and the community to advance scholarship and outreach.
