Job summary

Federal Way Public Schools seeks a paraeducator to provide 1:1 instruction to a student with visual impairments under a certificated teacher. You will modify materials, assist with Braille, large print and audio resources, and help operate specialized equipment.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in basic spelling, math and grammar
• Experience with reading instruction, remediation and assessment
• Experience working with visually impaired students

Responsibilities

• Assist vision program staff with modifications and services for visually impaired students
• Assist in implementing each student’s IEP goals and objectives
• Assist in producing and maintaining braille, large print and audio materials and equipment
• Maintain communication with vision program supervisor and staff
• Operate and assist with specialized equipment such as Braillers and low vision devices
• Train staff in the use of specialized equipment
• Help students use low vision devices and equipment
• Support development of students’ independence and positive behavior
• Maintain confidentiality of student records
• Assist in administrative tasks and required reports
• Monitor student needs and communicate issues to staff
• Provide information to staff about accommodations and materials
• Collect and maintain data to modify IEPs and assess program effectiveness
• Share essential information to meet IEP goals
• Assist in implementing behavior plans and daily living skills
• Assist with transitions between activities
• Adhere to safety and security in routines
• Follow district policies and maintain professional conduct
• Communicate effectively with staff, parents and community
• Pursue ongoing professional growth
• Perform essential functions with or without accommodations
