Job summary

American Heritage Schools is seeking qualified candidates for a Virtual Tutor role within the Tutoring Department. This is a virtual tutoring position and does not require relocation; a flexible schedule is provided to accommodate students across time zones.

The minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree and at least 3 years of teaching or tutoring experience, with preference for advanced certifications such as AP, ESOL or Reading Specialist. Retirees are welcome to apply.

Job description

American Heritage Schools is building a talent pipeline for future opportunities within the Tutoring Department. While this is not an immediate opening, we invite interested candidates to submit their qualifications for upcoming positions. Bachelors Degree is a minimum requirement along with a minimum of 3 years of teaching or tutoring experience. This is a virtual tutoring position.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Virtual Tutor is responsible for helping students learn and understand new concepts and complete assignments. You will work directly with students to assist them in gaining a better understanding of concepts taught in the classroom.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Demonstrate mastery of content knowledge
• Ensure a high-quality learning experience; plan and implement learning tasks:
  • Curate and design resources and incorporate instructional technologies aligned with learning outcomes
• Assist students individually in building core skills for the requested subject area
• Helping students understand educational concepts, complete assignments, and prepare for assessments
• Assist students in achieving their classroom/subject matter goals by providing the following:
  • Supplemental instruction
  • Preparing instructional materials to support their classwork
  • Evaluating their understanding of the course or subject area as time progresses
  • Differentiate and modify learning tasks according to student need; implement accommodations as directed
  • Demonstrate caring and respect in interactions with students

SECONDARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Communicate updates to the director, classroom teacher(s) and families of the student’s progress.
  • Provide timely and relevant feedback to students and parents
• Mandatory pieces of training to attend and complete such as:
  • Cybersecurity
  • Child Abuse Prevention
  • Customer Service
  • Safety and Security
  • Etc.

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's Degree (Minimum Requirement)
• Valid Teaching License/Subject Area Certification
  • Retirees in the education field are welcome to apply
• 3+ years of teaching or tutoring experience
• Gifted, AP Certifications, ESOL, ESE, Reading Specialist, Orton Gillingham, (Preferred)

SKILLS & ABILITIES

• Reliable professional with excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Is comfortable with different school based learning systems and online textbooks
• Can proficiently use digital platforms for learning
• Ability to personalize lessons based on student capabilities
• Exhibit subject matter expertise by communicating the materials and skills to students in an approachable way
• Comfortable and proficient with educational technology; flexible in using different online platforms

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Flexible schedule based on your availability and client demand
• 7 days a week
  • 6:45 am - 9:00 pm EST (weekdays)
  • 8:00 am - 9:00 pm EST (weekends)
• Personal computer with audio and video capabilities and a stable internet connection is required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer

BENEFITS

• This position is not eligible for benefits due to part-time status.

• Advertising to clients and billing goes through our program. There is no need to seek out clients on your own.
• Our scheduling software allows clients to find you any time you are free during our program working hours and tracks your sessions and clients in one place.
