Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Virtual Design & Construction Intern to assist with the digital delivery of construction projects in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. You will work with the project team to develop the digital project management strategy, facilitating collaboration across pursuits and projects.

The role emphasizes hands-on learning, strong communication, leadership, and a proactive, self-motivated approach within a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Pursuit of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in VDC, Drafting & Design Tech, BIM, Architecture, or related field from an accredited program.
• Currently enrolled and in good standing in a related post-secondary or certificate program.
• Minimum GPA 3.0 preferred.

Description

The Virtual Design & Construction Intern assists with digital delivery of construction projects. This position will assist the project team and manager(s) in developing the digital project management strategy to further Burns & McDonnell's position and facilitate collaboration with activities, pursuits, and projects.

Specific assignments and project work vary depending on the market segments. Please see below for information on each market:

Construction

The Construction group is responsible for construction phase services in the design-build process and support for safety and health, estimating, pre-construction, field operations, quality and project management. This includes multiple project execution approaches, including self-perform, multi-subcontractor, construction only and program management.

Qualifications

• Pursuit of Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Virtual Design & Construction, Drafting & Design Technology, Building Information Modeling, Architecture, or related degree from an accredited program.

• Currently enrolled, and in good standing, in a post-secondary education and/or technical certificate program in a field related to the work done in the department.

• Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.

• Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.

• Actively involved in campus, community or other volunteer activities or organizations.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Strong problem solving and analytical skills.

• Basic knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office programs, including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

• Demonstrated leadership skills.

• Self-motivated and eager learner, aptitude to grow and develop within the field.

• Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without requiring future sponsorship for employment visa status.
