Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) Manager

Position Summary

WIELAND’s VDC Manager will manage the implementation and oversee the use of digital technologies and methodologies, such as Building Information Modeling (BIM) to continue to improve efficiency and coordination from preconstruction phase through construction. They will effectively work with engineers, architects, designers, and modelers to ensure the information is accurate and up to date across disciplines / departments throughout the progression of the project. They will work closely with the preconstruction and operations team members and report to the Director of Preconstruction.

Job Functions

• Lead the development and execution of the Project Execution Plan specific to the project VDC plans, aligning the project goals and client requirements.
• Coordinate BIM/VDC efforts among design teams, trade partners and field staff.
• Implement and manage digital construction tools such as, cm Builder, and the Autodesk Suite: Revit / Navisworks / BIM360 / AutoCAD.
• Review 3D data provided by Engineer/Architectural teams for site safety and logistics, building sequencing and VR experiences.
• Lead / participate in clash detection review sessions with design partners and owners’ process systems.
• Mitigate field conflicts for potential risks that could be avoided by proper use of the BIM data.
• Advance and mentor trade partners to utilize the project BIM data to create a more efficient shop drawing and pre-fabrication potential to push for lean construction practices.
• Communicate with engineers, architect and clients in a positive and timely manner.
• Collaborate with the preconstruction department to extract quantities and visualize scope for bid and proposals.
• Establish and enforce modeling standards, naming customs and workflows.
• Create, maintain and quality control the 3D models of architecture, structure, MEP and civil systems.
• Remain current with emerging technologies and recommend implementation strategies when necessary.
• Demonstrate and promote a spirit of collaboration and commitment with team members.
• Continually seek to improve WIELAND’s processes and abilities to serve our clients needs.
• Maintains and displays company values and culture.
• Ability to travel as needed to support project teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management or a related field (preferred but not required)
• 3-5 years of experience in implementation, training and support in BIM and VDC.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong collaborative and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent attention to detail, analytical, organizational and time management skills.
• Knowledge of BIM modeling and Autodesk Revit / Navisworks / BIM360 / AutoCAD software.
• Ability to understand building construction documents.
• Advanced math and computer skills.
• Creativity and artistic ability.
