Job summary

Charles IT in Middletown, CT seeks a seasoned vCIO to provide strategic technology leadership for managed services clients. The role aligns infrastructure, security, and operations with business goals, and partners with executive stakeholders to drive modernization and risk mitigation.

You will oversee roadmaps, budgets, and governance while translating complex tech into actionable plans for clients. Strong MSP experience and certifications are preferred; hybrid work is possible after onboarding.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute IT roadmaps aligning infrastructure investments with business goals.
• Evaluate client IT environments, networks, servers, cloud, and security to identify gaps.
• Provide leadership on modernization, migrations, cloud adoption, and lifecycle management.
• Lead executive reviews with infrastructure assessments, risk analysis, and budgets.
• Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and capital expenditure planning.
• Strengthen client security postures per industry frameworks and regulations.
• Scope and oversee projects with technical teams to meet client needs.
• Identify risks and opportunities to improve reliability, security, and performance.
• Maintain technical standards, documentation, and best practices.
• Mentor internal staff and support cross-department collaboration.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Minimum of 5 years in IT consulting, technical account management, or MSP leadership.
• Experience developing IT strategies and advising stakeholders.
• Strong understanding of infrastructure, virtualization, cloud, endpoints, cybersecurity.
• Translate complex requirements into scalable IT solutions.
• Experience with ConnectWise, Cisco, Meraki, Datto, VMware, Microsoft 365, macOS.
• Certs such as MCSA, VCP, CCNA preferred.
• Manage multiple client initiatives in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to support evening client meetings; anticipated ~47 hours/week.
• Must pass background check and possess a valid U.S. driver's license.

We are seeking an experienced Virtual Client Information Officer (vCIO) to provide strategic technology leadership and technical oversight for our managed services clients. This role is responsible for evaluating and optimizing client IT environments, developing long-term technology strategies, and ensuring infrastructure, security, and operational initiatives align with organizational objectives.

The ideal candidate brings a strong technical foundation, experience managing complex IT environments, and the ability to translate technical requirements into actionable business strategies. This individual will serve as a trusted technical advisor, partnering with executive stakeholders and internal engineering teams to drive infrastructure improvements, risk mitigation, and technology modernization.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute strategic IT roadmaps that align infrastructure investments, technology initiatives, and business objectives.

• Evaluate client IT environments, including network architecture, server infrastructure, cloud platforms, endpoint management, and cybersecurity controls, to identify performance gaps and opportunities for optimization.

• Provide technical leadership and guidance on infrastructure modernization, system migrations, cloud adoption, and technology lifecycle management.

• Lead executive-level technology reviews, presenting infrastructure assessments, risk analysis, budget recommendations, and strategic initiatives to client stakeholders.

• Oversee IT budgeting, technology forecasting, resource allocation, and capital expenditure planning.

• Assess and strengthen client security postures through alignment with industry frameworks, regulatory requirements, and established IT governance practices.

• Partner with technical teams to scope, prioritize, and oversee infrastructure projects, ensuring solutions meet client requirements and operational standards.

• Identify technology risks, infrastructure deficiencies, and opportunities to improve system reliability, scalability, security, and performance.

• Establish and maintain technical standards, documentation practices, and IT best practices across assigned client environments.

• Mentor internal technical personnel and collaborate across departments to support consistent service delivery and technical excellence.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in IT consulting, technical account management, infrastructure engineering, or IT leadership, preferably within a Managed Service Provider (MSP) environment.

• Demonstrated experience developing IT strategies, managing infrastructure budgets, conducting technology assessments, and advising C-suite stakeholders.

• Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, including network architecture, server environments, virtualization, cloud technologies, endpoint management, and cybersecurity practices.

• Ability to translate complex technical requirements into scalable IT solutions that support business objectives and operational efficiency.

• Experience with IT service management platforms and technologies such as ConnectWise, Cisco, Meraki, Datto, VMware, Microsoft 365, and macOS environments.

• Industry-recognized certifications such as MCSA, VCP, CCNA, or equivalent technical credentials are preferred.

• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple client initiatives, prioritize technical requirements, and coordinate cross-functional resources in a fast-paced environment.

• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.

• Ability to support occasional evening client meetings, dinners, and industry events. Anticipated work schedule is approximately 47 hours per week.

• Must successfully pass a background check and possess a valid U.S. driver’s license.
