The State of North Carolina, Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technologist I (S) to perform viral testing and related lab work within the Veterinary Division. The position requires a bachelor’s or associate degree in a relevant field and offers a salary range from $58,265 to $65,000, depending on education and experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, chemistry, or biological science from an accredited institution.
• Associate degree in medical technology from an accredited institution and two years of experience in a medical laboratory.
• Completion of a Certified Laboratory Assistant course in medical technology or a comparable course and three years of experience in a medical laboratory.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Conduct testing of viral agents in mammalian and avian species.
• Process samples in accordance with standardized procedures for virus isolation and viral serological tests.
• Assure quality control of reagents, test kits and in-house laboratory controls.
• Monitor and maintain all laboratory equipment; prepare and maintain reagents as needed.
