Job summary

Cherokee Federal is seeking a Laboratory Technician, Virology in Frederick, MD to support virology research across BSL-2, BSL-3, and BSL-4 labs. The role involves sample prep, virus inoculations, and data reporting, with an emphasis on safety and regulatory compliance.

The position requires an active Secret clearance (or ability to obtain one) and a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field. Starting salary ranges from $60,000 to $65,000 with comprehensive benefits and career development

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field or equivalent professional experience.
• Ability to secure and maintain a security clearance.
• Proven clinical diagnostics and regulatory laboratory skills.
• Proficient in cell culture, molecular biology techniques, and animal research.
• Proof of US citizenship is required.
• Active Secret clearance or ability to obtain Secret clearance.
• Ability to work in a matrixed, team-oriented environment.
• Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal.

Responsibilities

• Support Non-human Primate, swine, and rodent studies by preparing study materials and inoculations.
• Conduct testing of vaccines and therapeutic compounds against various viruses using established procedures.
• Perform immunological procedures such as ELISA and Western Blot assays.
• Conduct cell culture, plaque assays, PCR, and other molecular biology techniques.
• Mentor junior technicians in BSL-2/3/4 laboratories.
• Maintain supplies and assist with inventory and inspections.
• Submit technical reports and participate in safety and containment practices.
• Travel CONUS/OCONUS to support studies or present findings as needed.
