Job summary

Bloom School of Music & Dance is seeking a part-time violin teacher for after-school and weekend hours in Los Angeles. The role requires teaching both private and group violin lessons and aligning with our pedagogical standards.

You will regularly assess student progress, reflect on class effectiveness, and participate in curriculum development with the music director and team. Ideal candidates hold at least a Bachelor's in Music or are pursuing it, with 1 year minimum violin teaching

Qualifications

• Prior experience in teaching private and group violin lessons.
• Play and teach a variety of styles.
• Understand pedagogy and how to scaffold concepts and goals.

Responsibilities

• Regularly assess student progress and understanding.
• Reflect on classes to identify what works and what could be improved.
• Assist in curriculum development as needed.
• Maintain professional communication with families and front staff.
• Provide lesson plans in advance for each semester and reflect afterward.

• Viola and/or Cello a plus
• Regularly assess student progress and understanding
• Reflect on classes as to what is working what could be improved
• Participate in professional development activities, both internal (led by music director, owner and visiting experts) and external (outside training opportunities, attending conferences, and engaging in best practice sharing with others in the Bloom community)
• Assist in curriculum development if necessary
• Constantly ask “How can we do this better?”
• Meet children where they are
• Participating as an active member of the community to provide stewardship of the school and adherence to its mission and guiding principles
• Positive and regular communication with the families taking classes
• Maintaining a high level of professionalism including arriving 10-15 minutes early to prepare the room, timely responses in all communications with front office staff, admin, director and owners, taking attendance in every class, meeting deadlines and commitments to self, students and the community, give lesson plans in advance for every semester as well as reflections afterward
• Constant education toward caregivers to help them understand what students are learning and why
• Find music that is relatable to students
• Ask questions and seek support
