Job description

Responsibilities
  • Regularly assess student progress and understanding
  • Reflect on classes to determine what is working and what could be improved
  • Participate in professional development activities, both internal (led by music director, owner, and visiting experts) and external (outside training opportunities, attending conferences, and engaging in best practice sharing with others in the Bloom community)
  • Assist in curriculum development if necessary
  • Constantly ask “How can we do this better?”
  • Meet children where they are
  • Serve as an active member of the community to provide stewardship of the school and adherence to its mission and guiding principles
  • Maintain positive and regular communication with families taking classes
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism, including arriving 10‑15 minutes early to prepare the room, responding promptly to all communications with front office staff, admin, director and owners, taking attendance in every class, meeting deadlines and commitments to self, students and the community, and providing lesson plans in advance for each semester as well as reflections afterward
  • Provide ongoing education toward caregivers to help them understand what students are learning and why
  • Find music that is relatable to students
  • Ask questions and seek support
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least a BM in Music
  • Also teach bass and ukulele
  • Converse in a second language
  • Prior experience in teaching private and group lessons
  • Play and teach a variety of styles
  • Understand pedagogy and how to scaffold concepts and goals
Position Details
  • Job Type: Part-time
  • Pay: $30.00 – $32.00 per hour
  • Schedule: After school; weekends as needed
  • Education: Bachelor’s (Preferred)
  • Experience: Guitar teaching, 1 year (Required)
  • Ability to commute: Los Angeles, CA 90041 (Required)
