Job summary

ByteDance in San Diego seeks PhD interns to join a fast-growing team focused on video encoding and processing algorithms for hardware accelerators. You will design and prototype C-models and firmware, collaborating across research, software, and hardware teams to advance high-performance video platforms for billions of users.

Ideal candidates are pursuing a PhD in CS/EE/Math or statistics, with strong C/C++ and Python skills and experience in ML frameworks.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a PhD in CS/EE/Math/Stats or related field.
• Strong programming skills in C/C++ and Python.
• Solid knowledge of image/video analysis and quality assessment methods.
• Experience with ML frameworks (PyTorch or TensorFlow).
• Ability to design experiments and iterate based on data.

Responsibilities

• Research and develop video analysis algorithms including ROI, content understanding, feature extraction.
• Assist in building datasets, benchmarks, and evaluation pipelines for multimedia quality tasks.
• Prototype, train, and optimize ML models for multimedia understanding.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate research into production.
• Document findings and present results to researchers and engineers.
