Job summary

Genesee County, Inc. offers a Prosecutor's Office–based role supporting victims of violent and assaultive crimes. The position provides information about victims' rights under the Michigan Crime Victims Act and assists with case management in the criminal justice system.

The incumbent will work under supervision with social workers and attorneys, conducting interviews, making referrals, and accompanying victims to court within multiple divisions of the courts.

Qualifications

• Completion of Bachelor's degree in psychology, pre-law or social service work within twelve (12) months of hire.
• Completed internship program for at least one (1) term within a Prosecuting Attorney's office, Police Department, Domestic Violence shelter, Child Advocacy agency, an educational setting or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Conducts interviews with appropriate parties as required.
• Writes case histories and/or casework studies and makes recommendations.
• Counsels adults and/or juveniles as directed.
• Makes referrals to community agencies.
• Processes paperwork for Crime Victim Rights and Crime Victim Compensation.
• Accompanies victims to court.
• Assists APAs with victim contact.
• Works under supervision of Social Workers, Lead Social Workers and Casework Supervisor along with guidance of attorney staff.
• Works in the District, Circuit- Family Division and Circuit Criminal division courts.
