Job summary

Memorial Hermann Health System in Houston seeks a senior health care attorney to supervise in-house and outside counsel on matters arising from direct patient care. You will advise on consent, environment of care, scope of practice, reporting, and peer review, and guide compliance with Medicare/Medicaid CPs, EMTALA, patient transfers, and related safety issues.

The role reports to the Chief Legal Officer and requires a law degree with Texas Bar admission within one year.

Qualifications

• Admitted to the State Bar of Texas (or admitted in another U.S. state and achieve Texas State Bar admission within 1 year of arrival).

Responsibilities

• Supervises the team of in-house attorneys and outside counsel responsible for advising on legal matters arising from direct patient care activity.
• Advises on patient consent, environment of care, professional scope of practice, reporting, and peer review.
• Oversees compliance with Medicare/Medicaid Conditions of Participation, EMTALA, and related regulatory matters.
• Ensures patient safety, quality of care, and incident reporting are properly addressed.

This position supervises the team of in-house attorneys and outside counsel responsible for advising on legal matters arising from direct patient care activity - including the following: patient consent; environment of care; professional scope of practice, reporting, and peer review; Medicare and Medicaid Conditions of Participation; behavioral health; EMTALA; patient transfers; incident reporting; patient discharges; facility licensure; and patient safety and quality of care matters.

Position reports directly to Chief Legal Officer.

Education: Law degree from an accredited law school

Licenses/Certifications: Admitted to the State Bar of Texas (or admitted in another U.S. state and achieve Texas State Bar admission within 1 year of arrival).

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

• Minimum twelve (12) years' experience in health care law in a corporate law department or law firm with in-depth experience and expertise in the above listed areas.
