Role Overview

This Vice President, Research & Development will lead our enterprise EHR system through an ongoing technology transition and stabilization towards future growth.

We are an established enterprise-grade Electronic Health Records (EHR) company, seeking a dynamic and experienced Vice President of Research and Development. The ideal candidate will have a proven record of leading large-scale software projects, especially in healthcare IT, and a strategic vision for leveraging technology to enhance healthcare solutions.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage large, complex development projects across geographically dispersed engineering teams.
• Drive the architectural transition from legacy monolithic systems to cloud-based SaaS models.
• Collaborate with stakeholders, including engineering consultants, UI/UX, solutions, hosting, and client-facing teams.
• Maintain ongoing communication with stakeholders, integrating feedback into engineering strategies.
• Foster an innovative, inclusive, and high-performance culture within R&D, setting clear expectations and driving team performance.
• Mentor and coach directors and managers within the R&D organization.
• Manage departmental budgets and forecast expenses.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
• Proven leadership experience in healthcare IT, especially with EHR systems.
• Experience transforming monolithic systems to cloud architectures, with proficiency in AWS, Azure, or similar platforms.
• Knowledge of SQL Server and modern development methodologies like Agile and DevOps, including CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience managing large, distributed teams.
• Excellent communication skills for strategic planning and stakeholder engagement.
• Understanding of healthcare standards such as HIPAA, HL7, and health informatics.
• Vendor management and negotiation experience.
• Resilience and problem-solving capabilities.
