Job summary

SIFMA seeks a highly motivated lawyer to join its Prudential Group as a Vice President in either our DC or NY Office. The role focuses on analyzing and responding to complex prudential regulatory proposals from U.S.

and global agencies concerning holding company, capital, liquidity, stress testing, and resolution rules. The successful candidate will draft comment letters and advocacy materials, collaborate with members and external counsel, and represent SIFMA in meetings with regulators and

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the bar in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience drafting and/or reviewing comment letters in response to U.S. federal banking agencies' capital and liquidity rule proposals.
  • Strong understanding of holding company, prudential regulation, bank capital frameworks (e.g., Basel III), and liquidity risk management principles.
  • Excellent legal research, analytical, and writing skills.
  • Ability to synthesize complex legal and regulatory issues into clear, actionable advice.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor, analyze, and interpret proposed regulations and guidance from U.S. prudential agencies (e.g., Federal Reserve, OCC, FDIC) and the Treasury Department related to holding company, capital, liquidity, resolution, stress testing, and other prudential regulations and standards.
  • Draft and review detailed comment letters, white papers, and other advocacy materials in response to regulatory proposals, articulating SIFMA's positions and recommendations. This work may involve working with outside counsel, and other trade associations.
  • Collaborate with SIFMA members, internal committees, and external counsel and consultants to develop consensus positions on regulatory and legislative issues.
  • Conduct legal research on financial regulatory matters, providing clear and concise summaries to senior staff and members.
  • Represent SIFMA in meetings with regulators, policymakers, and industry groups, as appropriate.
  • Assist in the development and execution of SIFMA's advocacy strategies on prudential regulatory issues.
  • Stay abreast of developments in financial regulation and their potential impact on the securities industry.
  • Understand interaction of prudential regulation with market regulations from the SEC and CFTC.
  • Draft blog posts and other advocacy materials for use by SIFMA and others.
  • Ability to speak and represent SIFMA at industry events.

Job description

The successful candidate will play a critical role in analyzing, interpreting, and responding to complex regulatory proposals from U.S. and Global prudential agencies concerning holding company, capital, liquidity, stress test, and resolution rules. This position reports to the Managing Director, Head of Capital Policy, Prudential.
