Job summary

SIFMA is seeking a Senior Associate, Research to join our team in New York or Washington, D.C. The role reports to the Managing Director, Head of Research and involves analyzing market structure, preparing written reports, and supporting economic surveys.

The successful candidate will have a finance/economics degree, strong analytical and writing skills, and advanced Excel, with Bloomberg experience a plus. Hybrid work options available.

Job description

Senior Associate, Research

SIFMA is looking for a Senior Associate, Research to join our team. The Senior Associate will report to the Managing Director, Head of Research. The role will be based in either our New York or Washington, D.C. office.

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate how markets function technically and explain the various market participants in the system and the roles they play in facilitating market functionality, with a focus on equity markets.
  • Gather and analyze data on index prices, volumes, volatility, outstanding, yields, and issuance across equities, ETFs, multi-listed options, and digital assets (tokenized deposits, funds and stocks).
  • Collect and analyze financial statements for global and regional banks, evaluating balance sheet and income statement metrics, as well as regulatory ratios.
  • Pull together and compare economic factors for the U.S. versus other countries
  • Prepare charts and tables in Excel to visualize and explain trends in markets, connecting what has changed in markets today versus historical trends.
  • Create final written reports based on the analysis of markets and financial institutions from the research phase through written execution (text and charts).
  • Execute biannual economic surveys to gather economic estimates from banks’ Chief U.S. economists and assist in writing the report analyzing the collected data.
  • Assist in performing ad hoc research and survey projects on market structure and other capital markets topics.
  • Respond to inquiries and data requests from both internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or economics.
  • Knowledge of capital markets required; intellectual curiosity and active interest in financial markets and current events a must.
  • Must possess strong analytical skills and research writing capabilities and see research projects through from start to finish with limited oversight.
  • Must have experience with the Microsoft Office product suite; advanced skills in Excel required.
  • Experience with Bloomberg a plus.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and complete multiple, simultaneous projects under deadlines.

Compensation Range: $85,000 - $95,000
