Job summary

Ayres Associates seeks a transformational Vice President of Structural Services to lead buildings and transportation structures, oversee bridge inspection services, and guide strategic growth across locations.

The role demands entrepreneurial leadership, strong financial acumen, and the ability to manage diverse teams while delivering high-impact projects for public and private clients nationwide.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering or 15 years of structural experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or Certified Bridge Inspector (CBI) certification.
• Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible experience in structural services leadership.
• Demonstrated technical expertise and professional recognition in structural services.
• Proven success leading teams, staff development, and growth management.
• Experience with strategic planning, business development, and client relationship management.
• Strong financial acumen, including budgeting and forecasting.
• Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication.
• Ability to travel regularly to Ayres offices, clients, and industry events.

Responsibilities

• Make data-driven decisions to support operational excellence and growth.
• Oversee workload balancing and resource allocation across offices.
• Lead, mentor, and inspire a geographically diverse team of structural professionals.
• Create an environment rooted in collaboration, transparency, respect, innovation, and accountability.
• Support employee engagement, professional development, succession planning, and career growth.
• Conduct workforce planning and strategic hiring recommendations.

As our structural practice continues to grow, we are seeking an entrepreneurial, collaborative, and technically respected leader to serve as our next Vice President of Structural Services. This role will oversee structural design for buildings and transportation structures across Ayres, as well as our bridge inspection services.

In this critical leadership role, you will provide strategic direction and operational leadership for our structural practice while helping shape the future of the firm. You'll lead a diverse team of structural professionals across multiple locations, drive business growth, foster employee development, and ensure the successful delivery of quality projects that meet our clients' needs.

The ideal candidate combines deep structural service expertise with a proven ability to lead teams, develop business opportunities, oversee financial performance, and execute strategic growth initiatives.

On Any Given Day, You'll

• Develop and implement an annual business plan for the structural service practice.


• Collaborate with company leadership to execute divisional and Ayreswide strategic initiatives.


• Identify and execute on opportunities to expand service offerings, geographic reach, and market share.


• Monitor industry trends, competitive positioning, and emerging market opportunities.

Required Qualifications

• Either a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, or a related field, or a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in structural services.


• Professional Engineer (PE) license or Certified Bridge Inspector (CBI) certification required.


• Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in structural services, consulting, and leadership.


• Demonstrated technical expertise and professional recognition within the structural service profession.


• Proven success leading teams, developing staff, and managing organizational growth.


• Experience with strategic planning, business development, and client relationship management.


• Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, and project financial management.


• Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.


• Experience managing multiple priorities and delegating responsibilities effectively.


• Ability and willingness to travel regularly to Ayres offices, clients, and industry events.


• Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
