The Vice President of Development is responsible for leading the comprehensive development strategy for the brand, overseeing corporate and franchise development efforts from market planning to restaurant openings. This role ensures the alignment of real estate, construction, and design functions with broader brand objectives, operational needs, and guest experience expectations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Define and execute the brand development strategy, including identifying primary and secondary markets, establishing market entry timelines, sequencing plans, and market density thresholds.
- Identify shared franchise and corporate markets, and lead strategies for market prioritization and growth.
- Build market-specific development plans that align with operational capabilities and brand goals
Corporate Development Execution
- Lead cross-functional teams and vendors responsible for real estate, construction, and project management of corporate-owned sites.
- Oversee building design, functional layouts, and vendor partnerships (e.g., architectural firms, engineers, and designers) to ensure consistency with brand standards and support operational efficiency.
- Manage corporate facilities and the preventative maintenance program to ensure optimal functionality and guest experience.
- Develop and manage a clear and consistent development process for franchise partners, from onboarding through first restaurant opening and ongoing market buildout.
- Provide strategic consulting and project management audits to ensure franchise construction aligns with brand design and cost standards.
- Maintain a comprehensive development resource library to assist franchise partners in navigating real estate, construction, and design expectations.
- Maintain proactive and consistent communication with franchise partners throughout the development process.
- Lead the Real Estate team to proactively identify and secure optimal sites based on market strategy and brand data.
- Guide the Construction team in executing efficient, cost-effective builds that meet brand specifications and timelines.
- Oversee the Design team to continuously evolve restaurant layout, signage, and design to enhance functionality and customer experience.
- Manage the site evaluation process, including broker relationships, site tours, and performance of due diligence.
- Lead negotiation and execution of Letters of Intent (LOIs) and partner with Legal to finalize lease agreements.
- Present proposed sites and development plans to the Real Estate Committee with data-backed rationale.
- Approve and manage third-party vendors, including general contractors, architects, material suppliers, and consultants.
Strategic Leadership
- Collaborate with the Executive Leadership Team to align on market-specific development goals, budgets, and long-term forecasts.
- Develop and monitor KPIs to improve results, efficiency, and profitability across all development functions.
- Champion innovation in development processes, cost reduction initiatives, and cross-department collaboration to support sustainable growth.
- Lead the intake, analysis, and utilization of development data to inform site selection and brand initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proven success leading franchise or consultative sales teams, ideally in a multi-unit or high-growth environment.
- Strong strategic mindset with the ability to translate insights into action.
- Demonstrated experience driving significant revenue growth and exceeding aggressive sales goals.
- Passion for mission-based brands and a natural ability to inspire and influence.
