Job description

The Vice President, Commissions Operations owns end-to-end execution of the monthly commissions cycle at Vensure Employer Services and leads the existing commissions team currently reporting to the SVP, Innovation - Data & Business Analytics.

This is a hands-on senior leadership role combining deep technical and analytical execution (advanced Excel, Power Query, ARR and commission-structure modeling, accounting, SQL / Snowflake), disciplined project and deadline management across a complex monthly calendar with roughly 80 discrete interdependent responsibilities, and active accountability-driven leadership of approximately nine specialists. The scope spans eight-figure monthly commission payouts, varied product lines, a broad ecosystem of technologies and data streams, and cross-functional interfaces with Sales, Payroll, HR, Legal, and Accounting. The leader is expected to execute some work personally, not merely oversee it.

Key Responsibilities
Monthly Commissions Cycle Ownership
Data hygiene
  • Maintain data hygiene across SFDC, payroll processing platforms, our CRM, and our proprietary commission application. Own data anomaly detection and correction to ensure accurate ARR calculations, accurate commission calculations and payout to the appropriate payees. Ensure appropriate cost allocations and amortization of commission expenses.
Revenue capture across all product lines
  • Manage the Sales Board. Oversee the monthly identification of all new deal starts, ARR calculations, and uploads to Salesforce (SFDC).
  • Oversee revenue audits and calculations from various product lines and service models, facilitating monthly information gathering from structured reporting tools and from third parties throughout the organization. This activity is highly time constrained with many external dependencies, requiring strong organization, time management, communication, and thoughtful escalation protocols.
  • Create and execute a shaping plan to integrate new service and product offering revenue audits and improve their robustness over time.
  • Handle special calculations and one-off agreements or client-specific rules approved by senior leadership.
Compute, audit cycles, and QC
  • Execute the monthly commission compute in our payroll platforms, custom commission application, and various Power Query-supported Excel files.
  • Run the audit cycles at start, 30 day, 90 day, 6 month, 9 month, and 1 year milestones. Apply audit-period decisions (push, static date, change BC) where standard logic doesn't apply cleanly.
  • Run all QC steps: starts matching between SFDC and payroll platforms or other sources of truth, file-input variance, failed data mapping, duplicate detection, and month-over-month variance analysis. Troubleshoot anomalies and resolve them.
  • Own the negative commission balance carry-forward tracker. Monitor rep-level running negatives and surface retention-risk cases to Sales leadership proactively.
Leader, SDR, channel partner, and special commissions
  • Execute leader commission calculations including the roll-up leadership commission tool and non-standard sales leader arrangements.
  • Generate the internal commission payout file consolidating commissions across core payroll platforms and more minor revenue streams from legacy and newly acquired technologies and offerings.
  • Execute channel partner payouts, including payout percentage validation and exception-report disposition.
Journal entries and close
  • Execute the three journal entry categories each cycle (portal, non-portal, legacy manual), consolidate, and complete the Intacct upload.
  • Execute the PTG amortization process - the 48-month amortization for starts, including audit-driven adjustments at each milestone. Run the stored procedures in the correct sequence with null-fill logic between periods.
  • Execute the estimate / accrual journal entries using the 2-month trailing average methodology (excluding January), coordinated with Accounting.
Team Leadership and Business Continuity
  • Lead, coach, and develop the commissions team of approximately nine specialists, including senior team members handling audit review, calculation, data validation and setup, Snowflake / SQL reporting, reconciliation, and automation.
  • Own the process ownership and cross-training tracker team-wide. Ensure every process has both a primary owner and a cross-trained backup so no single team member is the only person able to execute any process.
  • Maintain the end-to-end workflow, SOPs, and indexed recording library for every process in the commissions swimlane. Ensure team-authored SOPs remain current as automation lands and workflows shift.
  • Serve as backup on critical database work (Snowflake reports, stored procedures) to protect data integrity and continuity.
  • Manage weekly and monthly cadences including team standups, deliverable tracking, blocker resolution, and performance conversations.
Cross-Functional Coordination
  • Payroll: coordinate on internal payroll deadlines that drive early and mid-cycle execution timing.
  • Accounting and Finance: coordinate on journal entry booking, estimate / accrual methodology, Intacct upload, and audit-cycle reconciliation.
  • Data engineering and IT: partner on Snowflake reports, Prism instance maintenance, and Salesforce integration.
  • HR: coordinate on termed-employee treatment, draw administration, and BC compensation questions.
  • Legal: route wage-hour or contract-interpretation questions on non-standard compensation cases.
  • External partners: manage payment statements and various channel partner requests such as reconciliations and general account / commission questions.
Systems in Scope

Prism (multiple instances), VENCommissions.venture, Salesforce (SFDC), Snowflake, ClientSpace (CRM), Intacct, and various other payroll processing and billing platforms.

Process Improvement Partnership
  • Partner with the SVP, Innovation - Data & Business Analytics on continuous simplification and automation of the commissions process, applying 80/20 prioritization to identify the highest-leverage opportunities.
  • Surface improvement opportunities from steady-state execution and feed them into the master Commissions Improvement Opportunities backlog. Contribute to the monthly Improvements Delivered document.
  • Coordinate on the transition of the new commission module (currently in development) into steady-state operation once launched. Post-launch, ownership of the module’s ongoing operation transitions to this role.
Required Qualifications
  • Advanced Excel and Power Query. Demonstrated ability to build complex conditional logic, dynamic date calculations, and M-language transformations from scratch, as well as troubleshooting and adjusting existing transformations.
  • SQL / database experience. Sufficient to partner on and back up Snowflake report development and troubleshoot stored-procedure output.
  • Strong accounting foundation. Demonstrated fluency in ARR calculations, commission structures, revenue recognition principles, and accrual methodology.
  • Deadline execution at scale. Proven ability to manage a high volume of interdependent deadlines (roughly 80 discrete deliverables in a typical monthly cycle) with precision, including sustained peak-cycle periods and early or mid-cycle internal payroll deadlines.
  • People leadership at the senior level. Track record of leading professional teams of six or more, with comfort in hands-on execution alongside team leadership - this is not a purely delegated role.
  • Cross-functional communication. Track record of clean written and verbal communication with senior peers in Sales, Payroll, Finance, HR, and Legal.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA or equivalent accounting qualification.
  • PEO industry experience.
  • Sales compensation program experience -
