The Vice President, Commercial Operations will be responsible for developing the analytics, processes, tools, reporting, incentive compensation management, training, and pricing capabilities that support an effective, disciplined, and high-performing commercial organization.

This is a hands-on leadership role with the opportunity to shape a new function from the ground up. This individual will be expected to operate both strategically and tactically, setting the vision, defining priorities, and developing capabilities, while also personally executing key commercial operations activities in the early stages.

The primary objective of this function will be to create a more data-driven and modern sales environment, enabling Marcone to capture market share in an increasingly competitive landscape while also making the company an attractive destination for sales professionals accustomed to being supported by tools, training, data, and process.

Establish & Lead the Commercial Operations Function
  • Designs and implements the structure, processes, and systems to support sales and commercial effectiveness.
  • Develops and manages key sales and commercial performance metrics, providing insights that inform decision-making and drive accountability.
  • Oversee pricing strategy, execution, and governance, ensuring data-driven decision-making and alignment with business objectives. Partner closely with the Director of Pricing to develop a structured, analytically driven pricing function.
Sales Process Optimization
  • Defines and refines sales processes, ensuring consistency, efficiency, and effectiveness across the commercial organization.
  • Oversees selection, implementation, and adoption of commercial technology tools, including CRM and pricing analytics platforms.
  • Designs, implements, and administers sales incentive plans that drive desired behaviors and business outcomes, partnering with Finance and HR as needed.
Training & Commercial Enablement
  • Partners with HR to develop and deliver training programs that enhance sales capabilities and effectiveness.
Cross-Functional Leadership
  • Partners with Sales, Finance, HR, and other key functions to align commercial operations with overall company strategy and objectives.
  • Builds and leads a high-performing commercial operations team as the function matures.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Leads the commercial operations team, providing clear direction and fostering a high-performance culture.
  • Aligns the commercial operations with the company's long-term goals and ensures that departments are working toward shared objectives.
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations for assigned employees.
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Economics or related field.
  • 10 or more years of experience in sales functions, including at least 5 years in commercial operations, sales operations, or related roles.
  • Proven track record of operating within a dedicated commercial or sales operations function, with deep knowledge of best practices for supporting and enabling sales teams.
  • Experience building or significantly scaling a commercial operations function, including establishing reporting, analytics, processes, and tools.
  • Strong data-driven decision-making capabilities, with experience developing and managing key commercial metrics and reporting.
  • Expertise in pricing strategy, sales compensation, and CRM/sales enablement tools.
  • Background in a B2B distribution environment preferred.
  • Experience working in a business with a variety of customer-facing roles (e.g., field sales, inside sales, key accounts, business development reps), requiring coordination of different sales motions and strategies.
  • Understanding pricing strategy and execution for a distribution business.
  • Experience in a quota-carrying sales role—either as a rep or sales manager—is a plus.
  • Knowledge of MS Office applications as needed to satisfactorily perform work assignments – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint as well as the ability to learn company enterprise systems as needed.
  • Travel as required.
