Job description

The position reports to the Senior Vice President of Asset Management and is responsible for project development of thermal and renewable energy projects at existing and prospective power facilities. This position requires a blend of technical expertise, project management skills, energy infrastructure development experience and a professional network to manage projects from inception to commercial operations. The position will leverage both internal and external resources to identify, develop and complete projects.

Key Responsibilities
Prospecting & Asset Re-Development
  • Leveraging clients existing power assets and sites, identify renewable project enhancements, expansion, or thermal or renewable redevelopment opportunities.
  • Where applicable, support early project development prospecting activities such as: (1) new interconnections or expansion of existing interconnection points and (2) identifying new facility or expansions on existing sites.
Project Assessment
  • Utilizing internal resources and external consultants and contractors to complete early through late-stage development and front-end planning activities.

(1) Environmental, wetlands, and other regulatory studies and assessments.

(2) Zoning and permitting analysis, including discretionary and non-discretionary permitting requirements.

(3) Identify site control or land use requirements such as ROW’s, easements, crossing agreements, parcel purchase or lease.

  • Utilizing internal resources and external consultants and contractors to mature project interconnections through initial queue requests, system studies, deliverability analysis, and where applicable, execution of interconnection agreements.
  • Assess potential uses of project sites and interconnections; identify the benefits and risks associated with various project types/uses.
Project Planning and Design:
  • Collaborate with project managers, technical experts and asset management in preliminary project design; project scope development; cost and schedule estimates.
Permitting and Regulatory Compliance:
  • Manage the permitting process, including securing necessary approvals and permits from regulatory authorities.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations governing power development, environmental protection and land use.
Interconnection & Facility Needs:
  • Utilizing internal and external resources, including technical consultants, legal counsel, and regulatory consultants preform necessary activities to obtain interconnection rights for bulk electric system(s) interconnection; fuel, water and waste systems agreements.
Financing, Funding and Construction:
  • Identify potential financing sources, including grants, incentives, tax credits and financing programs.
  • Collaborate with project managers, asset management FP&A, and project finance in preparation of financial models and investment proposals to secure funding for project development.
  • Coordinate the planning and implementation of construction with internal asset managers and external resources
Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Engage with local communities, landowners, government agencies, and other stakeholders to address concerns and build support for power projects (if applicable).
  • Complete community and agency outreach as necessary to support project permitting and entitlement.
  • Communicate project updates and milestones to stakeholders through meetings, presentations, and other channels.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in renewable and thermal energy project development
  • Demonstrated proficiency in energy infrastructure development
  • Proficiency in project management tools and methodologies
  • Familiarity with relevant regulations, codes, and standards governing power plant development
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
