Job description

Vice President of IT | Confidential Search

Genesis Partners has been retained to recruit a Vice President of IT for a venture-backed advanced manufacturing company in Greater Los Angeles. Our client uses AI, software, and automation to produce high-precision industrial components, and is moving from a single production site toward a multi-facility footprint. The company name is shared with qualified candidates after an introductory conversation.

The role

This is a founding-caliber infrastructure seat. You report to the CEO, sit on the leadership team, and own the full technology stack the business runs on: the on-site compute and storage behind production, the networks and security program that protect them, the cloud environments alongside them, and the corporate IT that keeps a fast-growing team productive.

Your first mandate is the biggest one. You will design, build, and bring online the infrastructure and dedicated server environment for the company's next production facility, then turn that work into a playbook that gets reused at every site that follows. Production throws off enormous and fast-growing volumes of process and sensor data, and the systems that capture, store, and protect it are treated as a core asset rather than back-office plumbing.

Leadership here stays technical. You will make the architecture calls, review the designs, and get into the build and the troubleshooting with your team while you grow it.

What you'll own
  • Infrastructure strategy and roadmap tied to facility expansion, with regular reporting to leadership on uptime, risk, and security posture
  • The new-facility build end to end, from facilities-level power and cooling through compute, storage, and networking out to edge systems on the production floor, designed from the start to be replicated
  • The compute and storage backbone for very large data volumes, including high-speed interconnects between systems
  • Container orchestration and virtualization platforms, both owned hardware and cloud
  • Network design across all sites, with clean separation between corporate, production, and guest environments
  • The security program end to end: controls, monitoring, vulnerability management, incident response, and audit readiness
  • Compliance with defense-grade frameworks (NIST 800-171, CMMC, ITAR), including customer security reviews and external audits
  • Resilience and recovery for every system production depends on
  • Corporate IT alongside engineering infrastructure: identity, device management, and the everyday tools the team runs on
  • The IT budget, and the tradeoffs between cloud and owned hardware, and between building and buying, that keep costs sane as the company scales
  • Hardware, cloud, and vendor relationships; IT policy, standards, and change control
  • The team: lead the current group, then plan and hire the organization a multi-site company needs, with a culture where people own outcomes
What you bring
  • Somewhere in the range of 10 to 15+ years in enterprise IT and infrastructure, several of them leading a team, with technical skills you still use every week
  • Real data center experience across compute, storage, and networking, not just managed services
  • Strong command of both owned-hardware and cloud infrastructure
  • Hands-on Kubernetes experience in on-prem and cloud settings
  • A history of owning budget, strategy, and vendor relationships, and of presenting to senior executives
  • You were the first IT leader at a startup or scale-up and built the function from a small team
  • You have built or commissioned a data center or server environment, ideally with edge compute for a hardware or manufacturing operation
  • OT/ICS experience and securing industrial networks
  • Experience with high-throughput data and interconnect fabrics (InfiniBand or comparable)
  • You have led an organization through NIST, CMMC, or ITAR, or a similar federal compliance effort
  • Comfortable across corporate and engineering IT, Microsoft and Linux alike
  • Technical degree in computer science or a related field
Compensation and benefits
  • Base salary in the $225,000 to $295,000 range, depending on experience
  • Meaningful equity
  • 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Life insurance
  • Paid time off, sick leave, and company holidays
  • Paid parental leave
  • Meals provided on-site
  • Relaxed office culture with flexible hours and regular team events
Location

Fully on-site at the company's Greater Los Angeles facility, with very limited exceptions. Engineering, R&D, and production operate from one campus, and this role sits at the center of all three.

Our client is an equal opportunity employer and makes employment decisions on the basis of merit, competence, and qualifications.
