Job description

Vice President of Finance — Funds & SPV Complex

Denver, CO | Full-Time | Reports to the Chief Financial Officer | Confidential Search

About the Firm

We are a venture and growth equity manager with approximately $15 billion in assets under management, investing in leading private technology companies across artificial intelligence, space, defense technology, and next-generation infrastructure. We operate with a small, senior team and maintain institutional-grade relationships across audit, tax, fund administration, and banking.

The Role

We're seeking a Vice President of Finance to take senior ownership of the accounting, reporting, and administration of our fund and SPV complex — five diversified funds and approximately 100 special purpose and co-investment vehicles. Reporting to the CFO, this role also leads key finance initiatives, including real-time firm wide reporting on AUM and carried interest, and fund-level cash availability and dry powder analysis.

What You'll Own
  • Own the quarterly and annual reporting cycle across flagship funds and the full SPV complex — NAV packages, capital account statements, management fee calculations, and carried interest allocations
  • Serve as the principal internal owner of the annual audit across all fund entities
  • Own the quarterly valuation process under ASC 820, including methodology, documentation, and presenting conclusions to auditors
  • Own the Schedule K-1 cycle and investor allocations in coordination with tax providers
  • Support distribution processes, including waterfall reconciliation, economic assignment agreements, and underlying fund ownership
  • Review capital call and distribution notices and supporting allocation schedules prior to issuance
Finance Initiatives & Reporting Infrastructure
  • Build and maintain real-time firmwide AUM reporting across all funds, SPVs, and co-investment entities
  • Build and maintain carried interest tracking (realized and unrealized, entity and firm level, across all carry layers)
  • Develop fund-level cash availability and dry powder reporting — uncalled capital, subscription facility capacity, reserves, and projected expenses
  • Establish a single source of truth for entity, ownership, and cost basis data across the platform
  • Design the workbook architecture, reconciliation processes, review controls, and written procedures to support this at scale
  • Identify and lead further finance initiatives as the platform grows
External Providers & Upstream Processes
  • Act as principal point of accountability for all finance-related third parties — fund administrators, external auditors, CPAs, tax advisors, and banking/credit facility partners
  • Coordinate delivery and manage dependencies across providers to hit audit, tax, and reporting deadlines
  • Define scope, service levels, and commercial terms for each engagement; review external work product with appropriate professional skepticism
  • Partner with Operations, Legal, and Investor Relations to strengthen upstream processes (document collection, closing binders, transfer paperwork, capital call support), taking direct ownership where appropriate
What You Bring
Required
  • 8+ years of combined experience across public accounting and fund finance within private equity, venture capital, or a comparable investment management environment
  • Comprehensive command of a private investment fund's P&L and balance sheet — acquisition through unrealized marks, realized gains, fee allocations, carried interest, and capital account reconciliation
  • Strong technical grounding in partnership accounting mechanics — income/loss allocation, waterfall construction, preferred return, and catch-up provisions
  • Demonstrated ownership of an annual audit as the principal internal point of accountability
  • Working knowledge of partnership taxation, including Schedule K-1, K-2/K-3, and non-U.S. investor withholding requirements
  • Command of ASC 946 and ASC 820, including fair value hierarchy classification and NAV practical expedient reporting
  • Advanced Excel capability, including building and reviewing waterfall and capital account models independently
  • Experience operating across a large number of vehicles and managing reporting cycles at scale
Preferred
  • Big 4 audit experience within investment management or private equity, followed by a fund finance role (particularly of interest)
  • CPA license
  • Experience designing management reporting or portfolio analytics from first principles, not just operating an inherited process
  • Experience managing a bench of external providers (fund administrators, auditors, tax advisors) across a multi-entity platform
  • Familiarity with multi-entity structures — master feeder arrangements, parallel funds, offshore feeders, SPV complexes
  • Experience supporting secondary transactions, LP transfers, and co-investment mechanics
Who Thrives in This Role

You bring a strong ownership orientation, resolving issues before they escape and operating with limited direction. This role requires precision at the transaction level alongside the judgment to see the complete financial picture of the platform — you're comfortable working hands-on across the detail while building process where little currently exists. Clear written communication is essential, as is the ability to hold external providers to a high standard while maintaining constructive working relationships.

Who You’ll Work With

You’ll report to the CFO and sit as a peer to the firm's existing VP of Finance. The finance function also includes a finance analyst and a Management Company Accountant who owns the management company books. You’ll work closely with the COO, General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer, and the Investor Relations team, along with external auditors, tax CPAs, fund administrators, and banking/credit facility partners.
