Job summary

Hamilton Lane is seeking a seasoned Vice President of External Communications for the Americas to shape and execute our PR strategy across the region. You will partner with regional leadership to protect and elevate the firm’s reputation and ensure consistent messaging.

You will lead a team and agency partners, manage media relations, crisis response, and executive visibility on major announcements, with focus on collaboration across time zones. Limited travel may be involved to key markets.

Qualifications

The Opportunity:

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Vice President, External Communications – Americas to lead our external communications efforts across the region. This senior‑level role is responsible for shaping and executing our PR strategy in alignment with global priorities, maximizing our impact and brand exposure, while protecting our reputation. You will serve as a trusted advisor to local leadership, guiding communications around key business decisions, reputation management and brand positioning.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and lead the Americas PR strategy in alignment with regional and global initiatives. Serve as a senior communications advisor to executives and business leaders. Guide messaging and positioning for major announcements, executive visibility and strategic initiatives.
  • Media & Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with top‑tier media and industry stakeholders. Oversee media relations strategy, including proactive storytelling, executive interviews and crisis response. Develop plan for earned speaking opportunities for key spokespeople to elevate visibility with key audiences.
  • Content & Messaging Oversight: Oversee the development of press releases and media‑focused content. Ensure consistency in messaging across markets and platforms. Collaborate with global and regional communications and marketing colleagues to align narratives.
  • Monitoring, Insights & Risk Management: Monitor media, industry trends and public sentiment to inform strategy and identify emerging risks or opportunities. Support the development of regular reporting and insights on PR performance and brand reputation. Support issues management and crisis communications planning and execution.
  • Team & Agency Management: Manage and mentor team members and agency partners to maximize resources and position the team for future success. Foster a high‑performing, collaborative culture focused on impact and innovation. Oversee budgets, timelines, and resource allocation for Americas PR initiatives.
Your background will include:
  • Must-haves: 8+ years of experience in public relations, corporate communications, or a related field. Deep understanding of the financial media landscape and ability to build and maintain reporter relationships. Proven track record of leading strategic communications in complex, matrixed, or global organizations. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence at the executive level. Experience managing teams and agencies across and working across time zones. Strong crisis communications and reputation management experience.
  • Nice‑to‑haves: Experience in media relations for financial services, preferably within private markets. Experience working with C‑suite executives and investor relations teams. Familiarity with media monitoring, analytics, and reporting tools.
Travel Requirements:

Limited travel, occasionally to New York or for conferences or media engagements.
