Qualifications

  • B.S. or B.A. in Environmental Planning, Geography, Ecology, Environmental Science, or related degree.
  • Minimum twenty (20) years of professional experience in the A/E/C industry managing environmental permitting and licensing of energy infrastructure.
  • Experience in Southwestern states including Southern California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, and west Texas.
  • Expertise in NEPA regulations with knowledge of state environmental regulations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and client management.

Responsibilities

  • Lead internal and external business development initiatives to drive growth in Power & Energy.
  • Develop client relationships and lead proposal strategy, preparation, and delivery.
  • Position and expand environmental services with existing and prospective clients.
  • Maintain CRM with pipeline and market intelligence; pursue major projects.
  • Lead contract reviews, negotiations, and MSAs; coordinate with Marketing for campaigns.
  • Mentor project teams and represent WSP at industry associations.

This Opportunity

WSP’s Earth & Environment Business Line is seeking a Vice President, Business Development to support the Power & Energy market sector. This full-time, salaried position based in our Phoenix, AZ or Tempe, AZ office and offers a comprehensive benefits package, with flexible remote work options available.

This role will focus on environmental services and clients in the Southwest region of the United States. The preferred candidate will have experience as a Senior Project Manager, a network of industry contacts, proven track record of developing new work with account portfolios for multi-disciplined environmental services, work collaboratively with project managers and leadership teams across the country, and have a strategic growth mindset.

Your Impact

Business Development andStrategic Activities

  • Lead internal and external business development initiatives to drive growth across the Power & Energy sector.
  • Develop and strengthen client relationships while leading proposal strategy, preparation, and delivery.
  • Position and expand WSP’s environmental services with both existing and prospective clients.
  • Cultivate relationships with senior and executive-level client stakeholders while maintaining a strong industry network to gather market intelligence and identify emerging opportunities.
  • Track and manage the pipeline of large-scale opportunities, identify emerging projects, and maintain accurate information within the CRM Enterprise database.
  • Lead the pursuit and capture of strategically important projects.
  • Manage contract reviews, negotiations, and execution for new client engagements and Master Service Agreement (MSA) renewals.
  • Partner with the Marketing team to develop and implement targeted campaigns focused on the Transmission & Distribution, Generation, and Renewable Energy markets.
  • Contribute to environmental business planning efforts, including annual strategic planning and growth initiatives.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to project teams and seller-doer Project Managers.
  • Support team members in achieving strategic growth, business development, and client engagement objectives.
  • Represent WSP within electric utility and renewable energy industry organizations through presentations, conferences, and seminars.
  • Actively participate on relevant industry committees, task forces, and professional associations to enhance WSP’s visibility and market presence.

Financial

  • Achieve a minimum annual project award goal of $15 million.
  • Track and manage business development expenses to ensure investments are strategic and cost-effective.
  • Maintain an annual utilization target of 30%.

Senior Technical Advisor / Project Director Role

  • Accountable for the successful financial performance and delivery of assigned projects.
  • Monitor and achieve established project KPI targets and performance metrics.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and strategic guidance to project teams supporting large, complex projects, programs, and client portfolios.
  • Serve as an expert witness in State Public Utility Commission application hearings, as needed.
Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. or B.A. in Environmental Planning, Geography, Ecology, Environmental Science, or related degree.
  • Minimum twenty (20) years of professional experience in the A/E/C industry managing environmental permitting and licensing of energy infrastructure – transmission lines, substations, power plants, renewables, pipelines.
  • Direct and applicable experience in Southwestern states including – Southern California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, and west Texas.
  • Expertise in federal NEPA regulations pursuant to environmental services with a working knowledge of other applicable state environmental regulations is required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, defining and understanding client requirements, managing expectations, communicating with clients and project staff.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of programs (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc)
  • Self-starter with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certifications as applicable to technical expertise.
