A well-established operating company is seeking a Vice President of Accounting Transformation to help modernize and strengthen its accounting function.
This is a high-impact leadership role for an accounting-oriented transformation executive who can assess current processes, identify gaps, design practical improvements, and personally drive implementation. The right person will be comfortable working across accounting, finance, technology, operations, and internal controls to improve how financial information is captured, governed, reported, and used by the business.
This is not a traditional Controller or recurring close-management role. The mandate is transformation: improving processes, systems, controls, reporting, data quality, and team effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead accounting transformation initiatives across systems, processes, reporting, data, and controls
- Assess existing accounting workflows and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, scalability, accuracy, and governance
- Map current-state processes, define future-state workflows, and lead implementation of practical improvements
- Partner cross-functionally with accounting, finance, technology, operations, and internal controls teams
- Strengthen financial and operational reporting capabilities to improve visibility and decision-making
- Improve data ownership, data quality, control frameworks, and accountability across key financial processes
- Evaluate underutilized system capabilities and recommend enhancements, automation, or workflow improvements
- Serve as a credible accounting resource on significant or complex accounting matters
- Represent accounting in broader enterprise transformation initiatives
- Identify tools, training, and process improvements that help the accounting team operate more effectively
- Balance strategic planning with hands-on execution and measurable results
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Strong accounting foundation with meaningful transformation, systems, or process-improvement experience
- Experience leading accounting, finance, operations, or enterprise transformation initiatives
- Ability to understand end-to-end business processes and translate them into improved workflows, controls, and reporting
- Demonstrated success personally implementing improvements, not just recommending them
- Strong technical accounting judgment and credibility with accounting teams
- Comfort partnering with senior executives and cross-functional leaders
- Collaborative change-management style with the ability to bring teams along
- Strong communication skills and ability to explain complex process or system issues clearly
- Practical, hands-on, solutions-oriented approach
Preferred Background
- CPA, MBA, or related advanced credential preferred
- Combination of public accounting and private industry experience helpful
- Experience with ERP optimization, workflow tools, reporting platforms, automation, analytics, or data governance
- Experience improving close processes, reporting quality, system utilization, internal controls, or financial operations
- Background in a complex operating company environment
What Will Make Someone Successful
The strongest candidate will be able to give specific examples of processes they have redesigned and implemented, including:
- What was broken or inefficient
- How they diagnosed the issue
- How they mapped the current process
- What solution they designed
- How they gained stakeholder support
- How they implemented the change
- What measurable improvement resulted
This role is best suited for someone who enjoys building better ways of working and can combine accounting depth, systems fluency, executive presence, and hands-on execution.
