Job description

Our client, a large, publicly traded organization with a complex, multi-location operating environment, is seeking a Vice President, Finance Shared Services to lead a significant transformation of its finance operations.

As the organization continues to evolve, leadership is focused on building a more scalable, efficient, and technology-enabled operating model to support its long-term business objectives. This newly created position offers an opportunity to assess existing operations, challenge traditional ways of working, and help define how key finance functions should be structured and delivered in the future.

Reporting directly to the SVP, Chief Accounting Officer, this VP will lead the company’s finance shared services organization encompassing credit and collections, accounts payable, and fixed asset transactional accounting, supported by established functional leaders.

The successful candidate will play a central role in developing the future-state operating model, evaluating opportunities for process improvement and automation, and leading the organizational change required to implement the vision.

This is an opportunity for a transformation-oriented executive who combines strong business judgment and operational expertise with the ability to influence stakeholders, build alignment, and deliver sustainable change.

Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
  • Lead day-to-day shared services operations for credit and collections, accounts payable, and fixed asset transactional accounting, ensuring accurate and timely execution, effective controls, operational efficiency, and responsive service to customers and field operations.
  • Establish and maintain service governance across the shared services organization, including key performance indicators, service-level expectations, operational dashboards, issue escalation protocols, and accountability for customer, vendor, and operational outcomes.
  • Ensure shared services activities comply with Company policies, US GAAP, and public company internal control requirements, maintaining a strong control environment and appropriate segregation of duties across credit and collections, accounts payable, and fixed asset transactional accounting.
  • Partner with internal and external auditors to ensure appropriate process documentation, control execution, audit readiness, and timely remediation of identified issues.
  • Build a service-oriented, high-performing shared services team, fostering a culture of accuracy, responsiveness, efficiency, controls, continuous improvement, and strong partnership with the business.
Process Improvement & Optimization
  • Drive continuous improvement, standardization, and automation.
  • Support the deployment of relevant technology (i.e., workflow automation, robotic process automation (RPA), OCR/AI-enabled invoice and cash application tools, and analytics/process mining) to enhance operational execution, in conjunction with Company’s finance technology team, including responding to customer technology requirements.
  • Lead the assessment and, where appropriate, redesign of operational accounting and internal financial reporting processes to improve efficiency, scalability, control effectiveness, and decision-useful information.
  • Identify and eliminate inefficiencies, redundancies, and manual workarounds in transactional processes, benchmarking against shared services leading practice.
  • Own the process improvement roadmap and business case (cost, quality, and control impact) for prioritized initiatives across the three functions.
Future-State Organizational Design & Change Management
  • Work with the SVP, Chief Accounting Officer to assess the current-state organizational structure and design the future-state operating model for shared services financial activities, collaborating closely with the functional leads for credit and collections, accounts payable, and fixed asset transactional accounting.
  • Perform a gap analysis between the current-state organizational design and the desired future-state operating model, maintaining a core objective of ensuring customer service in accordance with Company’s priorities.
  • Develop and lead the end-to-end change management roadmap to transition from the current-state organization to the future-state operating model, including stakeholder communication, workforce and role transition planning, training, and risk mitigation.
  • Work with the HR team to define and execute the steps required to implement the defined organization, including role changes and staff transitions.
  • Track, report, and course-correct transformation milestones and outcomes for senior leadership.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline.
  • 15+ years of relevant experience in finance operations, shared services, finance transformation, or a related discipline within a large, complex, multi-entity organization.
  • Experience leading or overseeing transactional finance functions, ideally including credit and collections, accounts payable, and fixed asset accounting.
  • Demonstrated track record of leading large-scale process improvement, automation, and organizational transformation initiatives from strategy through implementation.
  • Experience designing and implementing future-state operating models, including organizational design and workforce transition planning.
  • Strong understanding of financial accounting and reporting under US GAAP and a SOX controls environment, including fixed asset accounting policy.
  • Technology-fluent, with experience leveraging ERP systems, workflow automation, and reporting and analytics platforms to strengthen controls, improve data quality, and increase automation.
  • Excellent organization, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and engage senior executives.
  • Change management and program/project management skills (i.e. Prosci, PMP, Lean/Six Sigma) strongly preferred.
