Job summary

University of Maryland School of Medicine invites applications for a tenured/tenure-track Associate or Full Professor to serve as Vice Chair for Research in Emergency Medicine and Director of Emergency Medicine Informatics at UM-IHC, providing strategic leadership at the intersection of emergency care and health data science.

We seek a clinician-scientist with biomedical informatics, clinical AI, or health data science expertise to build and lead a funded program, shape informatics

Qualifications

• MD/DO/MD-PhD with board certification or eligibility in Emergency Medicine.
• Eligibility for medical licensure in Maryland.
• Demonstrated record of peer-reviewed publications and extramural funding.
• Expertise in artificial intelligence, machine learning, clinical decision support systems, or EHR data science.
• Experience with large-scale clinical data analysis and real-world data sources.
• Leadership in informatics, data science, or related field.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic oversight as Vice Chair for Research and mentor faculty in grant development.
• Develop departmental research strategic plan and recruit research-focused faculty.
• Oversee research operations including IRB compliance and sponsored programs.
• Lead Emergency Medicine Informatics initiatives as Director at UM-IHC, including CDS tools and AI workflows.
• Collaborate with CEDAR and IT teams to optimize EHR-integrated workflows and data capture.
• Develop and oversee emergency medicine data assets, registries, and real-world data pipelines.
• Represent informatics interests on governance bodies and external advisory boards.
• Maintain clinical practice and contribute to design and testing of informatics tools.
