Job summary

The University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore seeks a dynamic physician leader to serve as Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs in the Department of Emergency Medicine. This senior role provides executive oversight of the department's clinical operations, budgets, and physician management across all sites.

The Vice Chair partners with the Chair and hospital leaders to drive strategic priorities, improve patient access and experience, and implement innovative care models.

Qualifications

• Residency trained and board-certified in Emergency Medicine.
• Academic rank of Associate Professor or Professor.
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership and administrative experience in emergency medicine.
• Demonstrated business acumen and financial leadership experience; MBA or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides executive oversight of clinical operations across all Department sites.
• Drives strategy and establishes priorities for clinical operations with Chair and senior executives.
• Manages clinical budgets, revenue cycle performance, and expenses in alignment with fiscal goals.
• Oversees Emergency Department Medical Directors and mentors leadership across sites.
• Collaborates with hospital executives and nursing leadership to set clinical goals aligned with priorities and regulatory mandates.
• Identifies initiatives to enhance clinical quality and patient safety with Quality & Safety colleagues.
• Leads workforce strategy including staffing models, recruitment, onboarding, retention, and leadership succession.
