PAGNY is seeking a Vice Chairperson of Emergency Medicine for NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi and North Central Bronx. The role leads clinical, operational, administrative, and academic functions within a high-volume ED and collaborates with hospital leadership to advance patient care and regulatory compliance.

The position supports core residency education, faculty development, and ongoing scholarly activities while maintaining an active clinical practice.

Qualifications

• Board Certified in Emergency Medicine with ABEM or AOBEM authorization.
• Unrestricted New York medical license or eligibility to obtain one.
• 5–10 years of progressive leadership/administrative experience in an academic/high-volume ED.
• Experience in clinical operations, quality improvement, provider supervision, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
• Strong medical education background with teaching experience and core faculty eligibility in an ACGME Emergency Medicine Residency.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Vice Chairperson of Emergency Medicine, reporting to the Department Chair and leading clinical, operational, administrative, and academic activities.
• Oversee daily ED operations, implement policies, and address challenges to ensure high-quality patient care.
• Supervise Attending Physicians, PAs, and NPs; support faculty development, recruitment, and retention.
• Lead department-wide quality assurance, performance improvement, and patient safety initiatives with KPI monitoring.
• Partner with hospital leadership and interdisciplinary teams to advance departmental goals and regulatory compliance.
• Serve as core faculty for the ACGME-accredited Emergency Medicine Residency Program, including supervision and scholarly activities.
• Represent the department on hospital committees and assume leadership in the Chair's absence.
• Maintain an active clinical practice delivering high-quality, patient-centered emergency care.
