Job summary

The YMCA of Greater Boston in Waltham, MA is seeking a Group Exercise Instructor to lead engaging classes in a safe, inclusive environment. You will welcome all fitness levels, adapt activities for varied health and cultural needs, and help members build healthy habits through energetic leadership.

Responsibilities include delivering energizing group sessions, answering participant questions, staying current on wellness trends, maintaining attendance records, and upholding YMCA policies.

Qualifications

• 1+ year experience in group exercise.
• NCCA accredited certification (ACE, AFFA, NASM, NSCA, ISSA, etc.).
• If teaching a specific format, current certification required (e.g., Yoga, Spin, Body Pump).
• Experience in health and wellness programming and group instruction.
• Understanding of internal and external marketing/special events.

Responsibilities

• Leads energizing, safe, and educational group classes as directed by supervisor.
• Answers questions from participants to support health and wellbeing goals.
• Maintains knowledge of wellness trends to provide accurate information.
• Builds authentic relationships with members and promotes YMCA connections.
• Observes and adapts classes for varied abilities, conditions, and cultures.
• Celebrates participant achievements and progress in health goals.
• Keeps accurate attendance records using Group Exercise Management software (MotionVibe).
• Follows YMCA policies; responds to emergencies.
• Resolves member issues professionally per YMCA values.
