Job summary

The Connecticut Humane Society in Wilton, CT is seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician to join our busy shelter and community practice. You will deliver high-quality medical care under the supervision of our veterinary team, working with both shelter and owned animals.

Ideal candidates have 2–3 years in veterinary care, strong surgical and anesthesia skills, and certification such as RVT/LVT/CVT preferred. This is a full-time, hourly position with weekend work and benefits.

Qualifications

• 2–3 years' experience in a veterinary clinic or shelter medical department
• Strong surgical and anesthesia skills
• Solid animal handling and veterinary care knowledge
• Comfortable with electronic medical records
• Certification as RVT, LVT, or CVT preferred
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Excellent customer service and empathy

Responsibilities

• Providing routine preventative and medical care to shelter and owned animals
• Administering medications and treatments
• Monitoring patient progress and communicating changes to the veterinary team
• Performing basic laboratory testing and x-rays
• Preparing patients for surgery, inducing and monitoring anesthesia and providing post-operative care
• Answering client questions regarding medical conditions, treatments, medications, and home care
• Maintaining accurate and timely electronic medical records
• Providing compassionate end-of-life care when necessary
• Collaborating with veterinarians and team members to ensure timely, high-quality patient care
