Job summary

The Connecticut Humane Society in Wilton, CT is seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician to care for both shelter and owned pets. You will provide high-quality medical care under veterin ary supervision, perform surgeries support, administer medications, and maintain medical records.

This full-time position offers hourly pay between $25 and $30, commensurate with experience and certification, with benefits and a schedule that includes one weekend day.

Qualifications

  • 2–3 years of prior veterinary clinic or shelter medical dept. experience.
  • Strong surgical and anesthesia skills required.
  • Solid animal handling and veterinary care knowledge.
  • Ability to think critically and contribute to treatment plans.
  • Excellent customer service with empathy and professionalism.
  • Comfortable with technology and electronic medical records.

Responsibilities

  • Provide routine preventive and medical care to shelter and owned animals.
  • Administer medications and treatments.
  • Monitor patient progress and communicate changes to the veterinary team.
  • Perform basic laboratory testing and x-rays.
  • Prepare patients for surgery; induce and monitor anesthesia; provide post-op care.
  • Answer client questions about conditions, treatments, meds and home care.
  • Maintain accurate electronic medical records.
  • Provide compassionate end-of-life care when necessary.
  • Collaborate with veterinarians and team for timely, high‑quality care.

We are seeking a skilled Veterinary Technician—certification/licensure preferred—to join our Wilton team. This unique position offers the opportunity to care for both shelter pets and owned pets, providing high-quality medical care to animals at different stages of their lives and journeys.

As a Veterinary Technician, you will provide compassionate, high-quality medical care under the direction of our veterinary team. Responsibilities include:

  • Providing routine preventative and medical care to shelter and owned animals
  • Administering medications and treatments
  • Monitoring patient progress and communicating changes to the veterinary team
  • Performing basic laboratory testing and x-rays
  • Preparing patients for surgery, inducing and monitoring anesthesia and providing post-operative care
  • Answering client questions regarding medical conditions, treatments, medications, and home care
  • Maintaining accurate and timely electronic medical records
  • Providing compassionate end-of-life care when necessary
  • Collaborating with veterinarians and team members to ensure timely, high-quality patient care
