Our Surgery Department at Pieper Memorial Veterinary Center located in Middletown, CT is a fast-paced, collaborative environment where excellence, teamwork, and patient advocacy are central to everything we do. We are seeking a knowledgeable and compassionate Veterinary Technician – Surgery Consultant to join our team.
The Veterinary Technician – Surgery Consultant plays a key role in facilitating communication between the surgery team and pet owners, ensuring clients are well-informed and supported throughout their pet's surgical journey. This is a dynamic, client-facing role that combines technical knowledge with exceptional interpersonal skills.

- Environment of Collaboration: Our VECCS Level 1 Certified Hospital includes specialists in Emergency & Critical Care, Neurology, Internal Medicine, Radiology, Oncology, Surgery and Exotics and a full staff of experienced Emergency and Primary Care Veterinarians. With the support of their technicians, assistants, and liaisons the hospital teams work closely together to deliver the highest quality of care.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct room surgical consultations (typically 10 appointments per day).
- Obtain TPR and history for each patient appointment.
- Restrain patients during surgical consultations.
- Assist with care including venipuncture and restraining.
- Obtain needed same day diagnostics, such as blood work and x-rays.
- Input charges for exam and diagnostics into software system for billing immediately following each exam.
- Ability to create estimates needed for diagnostics and/or procedure being proposed.
- Keep rooms clean and stocked with supplies needed to complete all surgical consultations for the day.
- Serve as a liaison between pet owners and the surgical team to coordinate care and ensure clear communication.
Compensation
Depending on experience and education - $21.00-$25.00 an hour.
Anticipated Schedule
This is a Full-Time position:
Monday – Friday – 8am-4pm
Holidays are required.

Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a surgical, specialty, or general practice veterinary setting is required.
- Ability to take a detailed client history.
- Ability to perform a TPR.
- Proficient in venipuncture
- Have excellent restrain skills.
- Strong client communication and education skills.
- Ability to work in a high-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Detail-oriented with excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Experience with EzyVet and Smartflow are a plus but not required.
- Must be 18 years or older to apply.
