Job summary

Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) is seeking a Licensed Veterinary Technician to join the Center for Discovery and Innovation Animal Facility. The role supports researchers by performing routine health care procedures, animal health evaluations, and veterinary treatments, while maintaining accurate records and compliance with USDA and SOPs.

Strong attention to detail, ability to work weekends/holidays, and a commitment to animal welfare are essential.

Qualifications

• Associates degree. Minimum two years of relevant experience.
• Mandatory weekend/holiday coverage.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine health care procedures and conduct animal health evaluations as needed so that all animals are seen at least weekly.
• Evaluate animals within assigned area or as assigned and report abnormal findings to the Attending Veterinarian and Operations Manager.
• Provide necessary treatment as directed by the veterinarian.
• Communicate findings and plan with the responsible researcher and building husbandry supervisor.
• Document animal health abnormalities, diagnostic plan, diagnosis, treatment plan, and treatments.
• Provide veterinary technical support to researchers as per the protocol including but not limited to: euthanasia, necropsy, tissue harvest, weaning, injections, tail cutting and colony management.
• Assist in training courses on the safe and humane handling, restraint and manipulation of research animals.
