Job summary

Pieper Veterinary in Essex, CT is seeking a Veterinary Technician to join the Primary Care team. You will provide comprehensive care across wellness, surgery, dentistry, and anesthesia, and support both patients and families with expertise and compassion.

Ideal candidates have 1+ year in a busy hospital, with an Associates in Vet Tech as a plus; CVT encouraged. Training includes anesthesia monitoring and client education in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year or more of experience in a busy hospital focusing on nursing care.
• Associates degree in Veterinary Technology is a plus.
• CVT license is a plus. (additional compensation provided for CVT)
• Knowledge of anesthesia and anesthetic monitoring.
• Knowledge of instruments, materials, and sterilization techniques.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive care across wellness, surgery, dentistry, and anesthesia.
• Assist with anesthesia monitoring and patient management.
• Perform venipuncture, dental cleanings, drug calculations and protocols.
• Support pets and families with expertise, compassion and education.

About You:

We believe veterinary medicine is truly a team sport, and we are seeking a candidate who shares that mindset. The ideal candidate is confident in their technical skills across all aspects of general practice, including anesthesia and anesthetic monitoring, venipuncture, dental cleanings, drug calculations and protocols, surgery, and client education.

In addition to clinical expertise, strong communication skills are essential—you should feel confident collaborating with team members and educating pet owners about their pets' care and procedures. Experience with CPR, and EzyVet, is a plus, but not required.

Schedule:

This is a full-time position:

• Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 7:30am-6pm
• Rotating Saturday 7:30am to 2pm

Compensation:

$21.00 - $30.00 an hour depending on experience

Requirements:

• At least 1 year or more of experience in a busy hospital, focusing on nursing care.
• Associates degree in Veterinary Technology is a plus.
• CVT license is a plus. (additional compensation provided for CVT)
• Anesthesia
• Knowledge of the use, care, and storage of veterinary instruments, materials, and equipment.
• Knowledge of sterilization techniques to provide care for patients requiring this.
• Knowledge of the instruments, materials, and standardized procedures used in the full variety of treatments to prepare and provide tableside assistance.
• Knowledge of principles and processes for providing client and personal services. This includes client needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of client satisfaction.
• Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
• Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments.
