Job summary

Pieper Memorial Veterinary Center in Middletown, CT is seeking a Veterinary Technician for inpatient nursing on the 1st shift, part-time. Join a VECCS Level I facility and be part of a collaborative team dedicated to high-quality patient care.

You should have at least one year of experience, be comfortable with restraint, venipuncture, IV catheter placement, and anesthesia; CPR, EzyVet, and SmartFlow are a plus. Associates degree in veterinary technology is preferred; CVT license is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care for inpatient patients.
• Assist with restraints, venipuncture, IV catheter placement, and anesthesia.
• Monitor anesthesia and patient status during procedures.
• Collaborate with veterinarians and support staff to ensure patient comfort and safety.
• Maintain accurate patient records and assist with scheduling and lab tasks.

About You:

We believe veterinary medicine is truly a team sport, and we’re seeking a candidate who shares that mindset. Strong communication and multitasking skills are essential in a fast-paced clinical environment, alongside maintaining a high standard of patient care.

We are looking for a Veterinary Technician who is confident with restraint, venipuncture, IV catheter placement, and anesthesia, with at least one year of experience in a busy hospital focused on nursing care. Experience with CPR, EzyVet, and SmartFlow is a plus, but not required.

Anticipated Schedule:

This is a part-time position:

Sunday - 6am-4pm

Compensation:

Starting at $22.50-$30.00/hour dependent upon experience

Requirements:

• At least 1 year or more of experience in a busy hospital, focusing on nursing care.
• Associates degree in Veterinary Technology is a plus.
• CVT license is a plus.
• Knowledge with Anesthesia and monitoring.
• Knowledge of the procedures used for scheduling patients, receiving, treating, ordering medical supplies, and requesting laboratory tests.
• Knowledge of the use, care, and storage of veterinary instruments, materials, and equipment.
• Knowledge of sterilization techniques to sterilize various instruments and materials.
• Knowledge of the instruments, materials, and standardized procedures used in the full variety of treatments to make preparations and provide “tableside” assistance.
• Knowledge of principles and processes for providing client and personal services. This includes client needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of client satisfaction.
• Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
• Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments.
