Job summary

Pieper Memorial Veterinary Center in Middletown, CT is seeking a compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our team. You will support veterinary technicians in a fast-paced hospital, handle animals with care, and assist in clinical tasks while delivering excellent patient and client service.

Ideal candidates have prior veterinary experience, strong communication skills, and a patient, team-oriented approach. Full-time schedule with rotating shifts and holiday coverage is required.

With the support of their technicians, assistants, and liaisons the hospital teams work closely together to deliver the highest quality of care.

About You: We strongly believe that veterinary medicine is a team sport, and our ideal candidate is someone who feels the same.

The ideal candidate is confident in animal handling and restraint, basic surgical preparation, and assisting Veterinary Technicians in a clinical setting. Experience with surgical pack and prep is preferred, as this role includes rotating between patient appointments and surgical pack and prep responsibilities. Familiarity with EzyVet and SmartFlow is also a plus but not required.

Communication is key in our industry, and we are looking for people who navigate both client and interpersonal communication with skill and ease. We highly value collaboration from all staff members, so please speak up as your input is not only valued but can make a difference.

Anticipated Schedule:

This is a full-time position:

Tuesday - 12pm-8pm
Wednesday - 12pm-8pm
Thursday - 12pm-8pm
Friday - 12pm-8pm

Every other Saturday is required - 7:30am-4pm

Holidays are also required!

Requirements:

• Must have prior experience working in a veterinary setting.
• Experience in handling animals and performing basic animal care tasks.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with clients and team members.
• Ability to multi-task and remain organized in a fast-paced environment.
• Compassion and patience when handling animals.
• Basic knowledge of animal behavior and medical terminology.
• Ability to work well under pressure and in stressful situations.
• Ability to work collaboratively with veterinarians, technicians, and other staff members.
• Willingness to take direction and adapt to new tasks and procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
• Punctuality and reliability, with a commitment to maintaining a high standard of care.
• Positive attitude, professionalism, and a compassionate approach to client care.
• Willingness to continue learning and stay updated on veterinary practices.
• Must be 18 years or older to apply.
