BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring an extraordinary Oncology Veterinary Technician!

A BluePearl Oncology Technician is someone who is self-motivated, a quick thinker, and able to multi-task efficiently. Good communication skills and compassion are essential. Preferably, candidates should have a minimum of two or more years' experience in a specialty veterinary hospital. The right candidate will be responsible for treating and monitoring patients, supporting clinicians with patient care, and communicating effectively with clients.

As an Oncology Technician, you will:

1. Perform physical exams; accurately assess heart rate, pulse, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate, and effort.
2. Understand normal vital and lab parameters and alert the doctor to abnormalities.
3. Perform phlebotomy.
4. Place peripheral intravenous catheters in the cephalic vein.
5. Calculate basic medical math.
6. Set up appropriate materials for chemotherapy administration.
7. Safely dispense and administer oral chemotherapy agents.
8. Safely dispense, reconstitute, and administer SC/IM chemotherapy agents.
9. Check chemotherapy agent calculations and dosages.
10. Properly shave and wrap for IV catheter placement for chemotherapy infusion.
11. Have knowledge of chemotherapy extravasation and appropriate response procedures.
12. Admit oncology patients and obtain thorough histories, including current medications, responses to treatment, side effects, and treatment duration.
13. Discharge oncology patients, providing basic client education on handling patient eliminations, oral chemotherapy at home, side effects, and medication administration.
14. Maintain a solid understanding of veterinary medical terms and abbreviations for effective communication with professionals.
15. Address client concerns appropriately during visits, updates, or post-hospitalization, and facilitate incoming calls efficiently.
16. Have knowledge of tumor types and understand diagnostic work-up protocols specific to oncology.
17. Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with ASA I or II classified patients.
18. Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrate proficiency in assigned roles.
19. Maintain hospital operations, including stocking and cleaning.
