Job summary

BluePearl North Hills in Pittsburgh is seeking a Licensed Veterinary Technician for our busy Internal Medicine department. The role offers a pay range of $20.00–$40.50 per hour with benefits and career advancement through CareerTrax leveling. Schedule is four 10-hour shifts with occasional Saturdays.

Eligible candidates with VTS credentialing may receive compensation commensurate with experience. Shift differentials apply for nights and weekends.

Qualifications

• Licensed veterinary technician required.
• Experience in internal medicine preferred.
• Proficiency in anesthesia and imaging techniques.
• Strong client communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Act as liaison between internal medicine clinicians and clients regarding patient histories, care instructions, and results.
• Perform anesthesia and sedation for CT scans, endoscopy, and ultrasound-guided procedures.
• Perform digital radiography and related imaging with proper restraints and positioning.
• Conduct phlebotomy and place intravenous catheters.
• Assist with endoscopic and diagnostic procedures; manage equipment and sterile technique.
• Discharge patients with client education including medications and treatment plans.

Job description

BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring a Licensed Veterinary Technician to work in our busy Internal Medicine department at our North Hills, Pittsburgh location.

Pay: $20.00 - $40.50 / hour

This pay band is a starting point and is dependent on experience and advancement through CareerTrax leveling system.

Schedule: Four 10-hour weekday shifts, with occasional rotating Saturdays

** Candidates with VTS credentialing are eligible for compensation commensurate with experience**

We also offer competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends.

*Shift differentials are based on a 4-hour minimum.

For example:

• Mon - Fri: 6pm to 8am = $3.00 Shift Differential
• Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = $4.50 Shift Differential
• Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = $3.00 Shift Differential

As an Internal Medicine Veterinary Technician, you will:

• Act as liaison between our internists and our clients regarding patient histories, care instructions, lab results, patient updates, and other topics as requested by the doctors.
• Perform anesthesia and sedation for CT scans, Endoscopy, and Ultrasound-guided procedures.
• Perform digital radiography, utilizing sedation and other restraint/positioning techniques.

• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Be proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters.
• Set up and assist with endoscopic procedures (GI, nasal, urinary, airway). Clean and maintain equipment following procedure.
• Discharge Internal Medicine patients from the hospital, including basic client education such as insulin injection, SQ fluid, and feeding tube demonstrations.
• Set up and assist with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures which may include:
  • Joint Taps
  • Body cavity centesis (thoracocentesis, pericardiocentesis, abdominocentesis)
  • Bone marrow biopsy and aspirates
  • Needle aspirates
  • Laparoscopic or ultrasound-guided biopsies
• Learn to place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.

Our Continuing Education Plan includes $500/year reimbursement for CVT and $750/year for VTS. The Continuing Education allowance can roll over up to $1,500 for CVT and VTS associates. Non-Credentialed, full-time Paraprofessionals are eligible for an annual CE stipend of $150. Full-time CVT associates also receive 8 hours of CE paid hours each year. Full-time VTS associates receive 12 hours of CE paid each year. Paid CE hours can be carried over year to year up to a maximum of 24 hours. Newly hired associates will receive a pro-rated amount of any CE benefit for which they are eligible.
