Job summary

Heartland Veterinary Partners LLC is seeking an enthusiastic Veterinary Technician in Des Plaines, IL. You will support veterinarians in both clinical and surgical settings, handle routine lab work, and educate clients on care after procedures.

The role emphasizes patient welfare, teamwork, and clear communication. Expect hours that may include weekends, with pay in the $18–$22/hr range and a comprehensive benefits lineup.

Qualifications

• Ability to work on weekends as required.
• Previous veterinary experience preferred.
• Ability to lift patients up to 25 pounds; with assistance up to 25+ pounds.
• Practice OSHA safety techniques including PPE.
• Basic math for medication dosages.
• Basic computer skills including MS Office.
• Strong communication skills to ensure patient safety.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians in medicine and surgery and related tasks.
• Take histories, vital signs, and weights during outpatient exams and educate clients.
• Prepare patients for surgery and monitor vital signs during procedures.
• Obtain samples (blood, stool); perform in-hospital lab work and prep specimens for outside labs.
• Take, develop, and maintain radiographs following safety procedures.
• Provide basic animal handling and restrain animals during exams.
• Administer medications, anesthesia, vaccines and treatments as directed.
• Keep exam rooms, treatment and lab areas clean; restock supplies and maintain equipment.
• Demonstrate warmth, courtesy and professionalism with clients and pets.
• Communicate with veterinarians and team members about patient plans and concerns.
• Perform any other duties as assigned.
