Job summary

SciTech Services, Inc. seeks a Veterinary Technician III experienced in biomedical research to ensure the health and well-being of laboratory animals and to oversee and train the veterinary technician team. This full-time position is located in Edgewood, MD, with a competitive hourly pay range.

Requirements include a high school diploma, LAT certification, and at least three years of experience in research animal veterinary care, plus knowledge of applicable regulations and AAALAC accreditation.

Responsibilities

• Provide daily oversight and training to veterinary technician team.

• Prepare diets, administer simple treatments, and assist with anesthesia.

Veterinary Technician III

Full Time Edgewood Area, MD, US

Salary Range: $28.85 To $31.25 Hourly

Citizenship/Clearance requirement:Candidate must be a U.S. citizen, ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance and pass a background check and drug screening.

SciTech Services, Inc. (SciTech) is seeking a Veterinary Technician III experienced in biomedical research to ensure the health and well-being of various research animals. The Veterinary Technician III will be responsible for providing daily oversight and training to the veterinary technician team.

Duties include but are not limited to:

• Experience caring for various animal species including but not limited to Non-Human Primates (NHP), rodents, rabbits, swine/mini-swine, ferrets, and guinea pigs.
• Responsible for performing daily and weekly health checks of all laboratory animals.
• Conduct quality assurance checks and implement existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
• Collect and record animal physiological data and conditions. Report any abnormal situations to veterinary staff.
• Prepare and distribute individualized diets, nutrition, and clinical treatments.
• Maintain electronic medical records and treatment plans based on veterinary directions.
• Setup basic surgical instruments, equipment, and operating room procedures.
• Perform veterinary technical procedures such as injections, euthanasia, and basic medical care.
• Clean and sanitize procedure areas, operating rooms, and prep areas.
• Safe handling and restraint of animals for observation, blood collection, catheterization, tissue collection, or anesthesia.
• Process and prepare blood, urine, stool, or tissue samples for diagnostics and research.
• Participate in study related necropsies and tissue harvest.
• Oversight and implementation of regulatory requirements for animal husbandry care.
• Administer simple treatments and emergency first aid.
• Manage facility data and compose technical reports for animal studies.

Job Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent education required.
• Three years’ experience in research animal veterinary technician care.
• Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) certified.
• Knowledge of Federal, state, and National Institutes of Health (NIH) regulations and policies to ensure regulatory compliance and AAALAC accreditation.
• Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to communicate both verbally and in writing, with a positive attitude.
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time, lift, pull, and push equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Work is performed in an area that is noisy and has relatively high ambient temperature (greater than 77°F).
