Job summary

The Alaska SPCA is seeking a Veterinary Technician I to provide daily care for surgical patients and assist with pre-, peri-, and post-operative care. You will work with veterinarians, technicians, and front desk staff to ensure compassionate, efficient care for all patients.

Responsibilities include performing lab work, radiographs, blood draws, and medication administration, while maintaining accurate records and client communication. A positive, team-oriented approach is essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred qualifications include veterinary technician/assistant experience.
• Ability to draw blood and place IV catheters.
• Knowledge of veterinary clinic procedures and terminologies.

Responsibilities

• Assist receptionists with triage and incoming patients
• Perform pre-exams and gather brief medical histories
• Perform laboratory tests and take radiographs
• Perform blood draws and catheter placements
• Dispense medications per doctors orders
• Communicate with clients/owners about patient status
• Participate in client education on pet health
• Follow departmental SOPs
• Maintain hospital cleanliness and operations
