Job summary

Pieper Veterinary in Middletown, CT is seeking a Veterinary Technician for Emergency Care. The role involves patient restraint, triage, venipuncture, IV catheter placement, anesthesia, and close collaboration with a diverse medical team to deliver high-quality care.

This full-time position offers a shift from 8pm-6am on Wed-Sat and holidays, with compensation starting at $21.00–$30.00 per hour based on experience.

Qualifications

  • Associates in Veterinary Technology is a plus.
  • CVT license is a plus.
  • Knowledge with anesthesia and monitoring.
  • Knowledge of scheduling patients, receiving, treating, ordering medical supplies, and requesting laboratory tests.
  • Knowledge of instruments, materials, and sterilization techniques.
  • Knowledge of the instruments, materials, and standardized procedures used in the full variety of treatments to make preparations and provide "tableside" assistance.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing client and personal services.
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments.
  • Must be 18 years or older to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Provide emergency veterinary care in a fast-paced hospital setting.
  • Assist with patient restraint, triage, venipuncture, IV catheter placement, and anesthesia.
  • Support scheduling, receiving, treating, ordering supplies, and running lab tests.
  • Maintain instruments, materials, and equipment and ensure sterilization standards.
  • Provide high-quality, compassionate patient care and support client communication.

About You:

We believe veterinary medicine is truly a team sport, and we are looking for a technician who shares that mindset. Clear, effective communication is essential in a busy clinical environment, and the ideal candidate can confidently multitask while consistently delivering high-quality patient care.

We are seeking a technician who is already comfortable with patient restraint, triage, venipuncture, IV catheter placement, and anesthesia. Experience with CPR, EzyVet, and SmartFlow is a plus, but not required. Collaboration is highly valued, and we encourage all team members to speak up—your insights matter and can truly make a difference for our patients and clients.

Anticipated Schedule:
This is a full-time position:
Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday - 8pm-6am
Holidays are required.

Compensation:
Starting at $21.00-$30.00/hour dependent upon experience.

Requirements:
  • Associates in Veterinary Technology is a plus.

  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing client and personal services. This includes client needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of client satisfaction.
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments.
  • Must be 18 years or older to apply.
