Job summary

Pacific CARE Pet Emergency & Specialty in Irvine, CA is hiring an experienced Veterinary Technician for daytime Emergency.

You will assist with incoming emergency cases, support hospitalized patients, and collaborate with veterinarians and fellow technicians to deliver timely, attentive care. Strong venipuncture skills and organizational abilities are essential as patient needs change.

Qualifications

• Previous veterinary technician experience with strong hands-on nursing skills.
• Excellent venipuncture skills and proficiency with IV catheter placement.
• Emergency or specialty veterinary experience preferred.
• Ability to recognize changes in patient condition and respond promptly under veterinary direction.
• Attention to detail with medication calculations, treatment instructions, and documentation.
• Ability to organize competing priorities in a fast‑paced emergency environment.
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to teamwork.
• Availability to work Sunday–Wednesday day shifts.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians with the assessment, stabilization, and treatment of incoming emergency patients.
• Perform accurate, efficient venipuncture, IV catheter placement, and sample collection.
• Provide nursing care for emergency and hospitalized patients.
• Monitor vital signs, comfort, and response to treatment, promptly communicating changes to the veterinarian.
• Administer prescribed medications, fluids, and treatments within your training and authorized scope.
• Assist with laboratory testing, diagnostic procedures, and patient preparation.
• Coordinate with the medical team to support patient flow and timely completion of treatments.
• Maintain accurate medical records and treatment documentation.
• Provide thorough patient handoffs to the incoming team.
• Maintain clean, organized treatment areas and follow infection prevention protocols.
• Communicate compassionately with clients and reinforce instructions provided by the veterinarian.

About the Role
