Job summary

BluePearl Specialty + Emergency Pet Hospital in Irvine, CA seeks an experienced Veterinary Technician to support our Emergency Department. You will triage emergency cases, obtain vitals, perform radiography, monitor anesthesia, and assist with patient care in a fast-paced, learning-focused environment.

This role offers a structured leveling system, shift differentials for nights and weekends, health/dental/vision insurance, continuing education opportunities, and access to BluePearl University

Responsibilities

• Triage emergency cases as they arrive, obtaining vitals such as temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography with correct positioning and technique.
• Understand normal ranges of vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes.
• Identify patients at risk and initiate CPR when necessary.
• Calculate medical math and administer medications via appropriate routes and durations.
• Place intravenous catheters, perform phlebotomy and manage feeding tubes and central lines.
• Monitor anesthesia and mentor/co-train other team members.
• Address client concerns with patience and empathy.

BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring experienced a Veterinary Technician to support our Emergency Department in Irvine, CA!

Schedule: Monday - Thursday (mornings)

Pay: $24.00 - $40.00 / hour

This pay band is a starting point and is dependent on experience and advancement through a leveling system.

We also offer competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends. *Shift differentials are based on a 4-hour minimum.

• Mon - Fri: 6pm to 8am = $4.00 Shift Differential
• Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = $5.50 Shift Differential
• Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = $4.00 Shift Differential

As an Veterinary Technician, you will:

• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
• Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Monitor anesthesia
• Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
• Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.
