Job summary

Portland Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Care seeks a full-time Emergency Veterinary Technician for their Portland, Maine location. Candidates must be licensed (LVT/CVT/RVT) or experienced Veterinary Assistants capable of delivering excellent patient care in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities include triaging patients, administering medications, and assisting in emergency procedures. Offering a starting pay of $22-36/hour and a comprehensive benefits package, including medical insurance and paid continuing education.

Qualifications

  • Must be a Licensed Veterinary Technician or experienced Veterinary Assistant.
  • Strong organizational and client communication skills are essential.
  • Comfort with advanced diagnostics and anesthetic monitoring is required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide triage and stabilize incoming patients.
  • Administer IV, IM, SQ, and PO medications.
  • Assist with diagnostics such as radiographs and bloodwork.
  • Manage fluid therapy and anesthesia monitoring.
  • Communicate effectively with doctors and clients.
  • Maintain detailed medical records and treatment sheets.
  • Assist in emergency procedures and critical care support.

Anticipated Schedule

This is a full-time position with the following schedule:

  • Thursday, Friday, and Saturday 7:30am-8:00pm
  • Some holidays are required
Compensation

Starting at $22-36/hour, commensurate with experience and licensure.

What You'll Do

As an Emergency & Critical Care Technician, you’ll work directly with our ER doctors and support team to deliver excellent patient care in a fast-paced, high‑acuity setting. Your ability to multitask, stay calm under pressure, and act as a patient advocate is key to our mission. In this role, you will:

  • Provide triage and stabilize incoming patients
  • Administer IV, IM, SQ, and PO medications
  • Assist with diagnostics such as radiographs, bloodwork, and ECGs
  • Manage fluid therapy and anesthesia monitoring as needed
  • Communicate effectively with doctors, teammates, and clients
  • Maintain detailed medical records and treatment sheets
  • Support patient admissions, discharges, and client education
  • Assist in emergency procedures and critical care support
Who We're Looking For
