Job summary

COVE Animal Health is seeking a dedicated Veterinary Technician for our Emergency Services department in Portland, ME. This full-time position offers a day shift schedule and the opportunity to work closely with our ER doctors in a high-acuity environment.

Qualifications

  • Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT/CVT/RVT) or experienced Veterinary Assistant.
  • Strong communication skills are essential.
  • Comfortable with advanced diagnostics and anesthetic monitoring.

Responsibilities

  • Provide triage and stabilize incoming patients.
  • Administer medications as required.
  • Assist with diagnostics including radiographs and bloodwork.

Veterinary Technician - Emergency - Day-Shift

Department: Emergency Services

Location: Portland, ME

Anticipated Schedule

This is a full-time position with the following schedule:

  • Thursday, Friday, and Saturday 7:30am-8:00pm
  • Some holidays are required
Compensation
  • Starting at $22-36/hour (commensurate with experience and licensure)
What You’ll Do

As an Emergency & Critical Care Technician, you’ll work directly with our ER doctors and support team to deliver excellent patient care in a fast-paced, high-acuity setting. Your ability to multitask, stay calm under pressure, and act as a patient advocate is key to our mission. In this role, you will:

  • Provide triage and stabilize incoming patients
  • Administer IV, IM, SQ, and PO medications
  • Assist with diagnostics such as radiographs, bloodwork, and ECGs
  • Manage fluid therapy and anesthesia monitoring as needed
  • Communicate effectively with doctors, teammates, and clients
  • Maintain detailed medical records and treatment sheets
  • Support patient admissions, discharges, and client education
  • Assist in emergency procedures and critical care support
